The Warriors

Paul Hossfeld's WARRIORS - Generation - Europe project portrays a European generation that is dealing with common cross-border issues.

It is a freely accessible photo exhibition held using urban furnishings, such as advertising panels, in public spaces.

The project showcases full body portraits of young European adults between the ages of 25 and 37.

The exhibition journeys to 28 European capitals and is accompanied by a series of conferences and discussions. Here, people of various origins discuss and reflect on European culture, society and identity.

The objective is to broach the similarities and differences of various cultures in Europe. This discursive research focuses on the perspective of these young adults.

This European project is first and foremost a broad-minded and easily accessible forum. The cultural origin and age do not play a role here, as the topics addressed span several generations.

The artist's position

« My generation witnessed the fall of one European border after another, which, in turn, provided us with an invitation to travel, making it easier to get to know our neighbors.
This generation is the first real European generation, which has not yet defined what distinguishes an European identity for itself, but simply lives it.

The blending of the cultures has now become a concrete reality. Now that we can take a comprehensive look at all the countries across Europe, we can see that they are dealing with the same problems and issues as my generation. This brings forth a feeling of a new solidarity that soars above the old cultures and borders. »

The Warriors

The exhibition comprises life-size portraits of the Warriors photo series.
The exhibition is put on display in urban furnishings in public spaces. In particular, the size, visibility and omnipresence of mobile poster showcases form the framework of the presentation.

At least 50 mobile poster showcases are required to set up each exhibition in public spaces and areas that are heavily frequented. In addition, the project also utilizes existing advertising space.

Conferences and debates

The research aims to identify the similarities and differences of the various European cultures.
The speakers come from various backgrounds. Above all, sociologists, philosophers, psychologists, thinkers, writers, artists and other actors in the societal and cultural arena will have a chance to speak.

The Project's finale

Once the project is completed, the research findings will be presented as a documentary with the corresponding portraits showcased as a separate exhibition in European museums.

Paul Hossfeld and several of the key congress participants will hold conferences to present the project and research results along with the exhibition.
An online version will also be available in the Internet.

The Warriors

Paul Hossfeld

« The objective of the WARRIORS photo series is to capture the feeling of my generation, which includes people who were born around 1978 and who were raised and live in Europe.
People from different social and cultural backgrounds are integrated into this photo series.
